The abilities I personally found to be the most effective were: Tesla Sticks, Thunderbolt, Arc Sword, Sparks, and Energy Pulse, alongside one-off power-ups such as a nuke and a shield. These, as with the weapons, are random and some you’ll find more useful than others. Still, if the weapon drops aren’t necessarily in your favour then there’s always the ability drops to (hopefully) rely on. It didn’t feel like bad game design per se, but it was certainly noticeable when you’re able to breeze through a level or have to retry the same one more times than I ask for an extra scoop of ice cream in the shop. That said, the weapons that drop throughout each level are random, meaning you could get an incredibly good set up from the get go, or have to play a level multiple times because the RNG gods weren’t in your favour. The tesla and gauss weapons felt like the stronger option to choose from if possible, with later levels making the standard bullet-spewing guns (except, bizarrely, the incredibly powerful repeater shotgun) seem like I’d have more of a chance throwing a banana at the hordes. The tesla weapons can spread lightning between enemies with each shot (handy for chaining damage to multiple enemies) whilst the gauss weapons shred through several monsters at once, which is VERY useful in escaping from tight situations. There’s a revolver, a fully automatic repeater shotgun to name the two ‘regular’ variations of these weapon types, but there’s also both ‘tesla’ and ‘gauss’ version of said weapons. The former of these come in various forms, from your standard pistol, submachine gun and shotgun, to a ‘fruitier’ variation of each. We’ll start off talking about just how it is you’ll go about mowing down hordes of Cthulhu monstrosities- weapons and abilities. Of course, this isn’t a game based on a real invasion of horrific monsters from another dimension, but nonetheless, it’s time to lock and load because you’ve one heck of a mess to clean up. What if the fictional monsters that stemmed from H.P Lovecraft’s brain, and the genius inventions birthed from Nikola Tesla’s mind were fact rather than fiction? Well, if the events of Tesla VS Lovecraft, a frantic twin-stick shooter from developer 10tons Ltd, were historical events then you’d be playing out that very narrative.
