Since John learned the same interpretation of scripture, he had a preconceived notion of the Messiah’s mission. The Jews had a preconceived notion of who the Messiah was to be. However, when times get tough, the believer begins to doubt the Lord. When all is well in their walk with the Lord, status quo kicks in and the believer goes with the flow. Even the most seasoned believer will face doubt which arises from the circumstances they are in.
